The Dulwich Estate charity is governed by a Board of 14 trustees. Eleven of these are nominated by relevant bodies, including the beneficiary school governors, the Dulwich Almshouse Charity, the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and the Archbishop of Canterbury. The other three trustees are appointed by the Board through a selection criteria which aims to ensure a broad mix of skills and representation.
The role of the trustees
The assets of the Estate are governed by the trustees on behalf of the beneficiaries.
Dami Ayeko joined the Board of Trustees in December 2022. She is a portfolio manager at British International Investment, the UK’s development finance institution. Dami has over 10 years’ experience in the financial services sector at Goldman Sachs and the Bank of England. She has a masters in maths from Imperial College, London and serves as co-opted governor for a school in Tower Hamlets. She was nominated by Central Foundation Schools London to be a Trustee for The Dulwich Estate.
Dr Irene Bishop,
Irene taught in inner London state schools for 42 years and was Head of St Saviour's and St Olave's School for 19 years. She co-founded Southwark Schools Learning Partnership which breaks down barriers between the independent and state sectors. Irene was awarded a CBE in 2012 for services to education. She continues to work with schools and academies and is a Governor of two schools, including Dulwich College. She has been a Trustee, nominated by Dulwich College, since November 2016 and became Chair of the Estate in January 2023, after three years as deputy.
Peter Cornforth
Peter Cornforth has spent over 35 years in the real estate investment industry, most recently with global asset manager PineBridge Investments. He is a Governor at the John Whitgift Foundation, an Non-Executive Director at East London NHS Foundation Trust. He has lived locally for over 15 years and has been a Co-Optative Trustee since June 2024.
Helen Freeman,
Helen became an Estate Trustee in June 2021. She is a highly regarded property management specialist and is Joint Head of Management Surveying at British Land. She has particular expertise in managing retail portfolios.
Helen Gough,
Real Estate professional Helen Gough joins The Dulwich Estate Board from January 2024 as the JAGS nominee. Helen has a background in commercial property consultancy, and is now Director of Property at the Whitgift Foundation, overseeing their property portfolio and supporting the management and development of their care and educational establishments.
She is an experienced non executive director, and chair of the property committee at the Haberdashers’ Company and a member of the Estates Strategy Committee at Kings College, London.
Rosemarie Jones,
Rosemarie Jones is Deputy Head of Real Estate to the Church Commissioners for England and is responsible for the asset management of the residential, commercial and rural portfolios across the UK.
The residential portfolio is focussed on the Hyde Park Estate, London W2 and Connaught Village and the rural portfolio extends to around 100,000 acres across 45 estates. The commercial portfolio includes offices, shops, industrial estates and hotels. Rosemarie has been a Trustee of The Dulwich Estate since April 2020, and became Deputy Chair in January 2023. She is the Archbishop of Canterbury's nominee to the Board.
Howard Kerr,
Howard Kerr joined the Board of Trustees in January. He moved to Dulwich with his family in 2009 and is keen to contribute to the continued vitality of the Dulwich community and the important charitable work of The Dulwich Estate. After an overseas career in the shipping and energy industries, he was most recently the Chief Executive of The British Standards Institution (BSI). A geography graduate of Oxford University, he is passionate about the sustainability of nature and communities. He was nominated to be a Trustee by Dulwich College where he has been a Governor for 3 years.
Penny King,
Penny is a partner in a central London law firm specialising in commercial real estate. She has over 25 years' experience and acts principally for corporates, developers and institutional clients, handling complex transactions with a real estate focus. Penny and her family have been resident in Dulwich for almost 20 years. Having served as a parent-governor at JAGS, Penny was later appointed to sit as a governor at Comber Grove School, Camberwell. She has been a co-opted Trustee of The Dulwich Estate since January 2020.
Ben Kottler,
Ben is a client manager at Marathon Asset Management, with responsibility for Canadian and US clients and for Environmental, Social and Governance issues. In a 30 year investment career, Ben has worked in London, New York and Boston. He has been a governor of two schools and volunteered for CFA UK, the representative body for UK investment professionals. Ben has been a co-optative Trustee of The Dulwich Estate since 2020.
Faith Locken
Faith Locken is a Governor at Alleyn’s and Founder of At We Rise which develops the careers of mid-senior level black professionals whilst promoting inclusion, equity, and diversity in corporate industries. Faith is also a Non-Executive Director at Richmond Housing Partnership Group. She has been at Trustee at The Estate since June 2024, nominated by Alleyn's School.
Menna Macgregor
Menna Macgregor is an experienced barrister and is also an expert on governance and education. She currently serves at the Clerk to the Alleyn’s School board of governors. Menna and her family have lived in South East London for 45 years. She has been a Trustee at The Estate since June 2024, nominated by Alleyn's School.
Stephen Parry
Stephen works in investment banking and Hedge Funds, covering London and New York. He also has experience in the development of retail and commercial property. Since 2016 he has been The Dulwich Estate’s nominee trustee at St Olave’s & St Saviours Foundation. Stephen is also Governor of St Saviour’s Girls School. He has lived with his family in Dulwich for over 25 years and harbours a strong desire to help develop the community of Dulwich. In 2021 he became a trustee for The Dulwich Estate.
Caroline Price,
Caroline is a chartered accountant and non executive director or trustee of a number of arts and educational related businesses and charities. She is also a school governor. She was Chief Finance Officer of a FTSE 250 property and transport group for a decade. Caroline, and subsequently her family, has lived in Dulwich for over 30 years. She has been a Trustee of The Dulwich Estate since April 2020 and was nominated by The Dulwich Almshouse Charity.
Patrick Seth
Patrick Seth is an investment professional with many years of experience. He was educated at Dulwich College and now lives in Kent with his family. He has been a Co-Optative Trustee since June 2024.
