Role Summary
Reporting to the Scheme of Management Administrator, the post holder will provide expert professional advice and assistance to the Scheme of Management. Working in a small and busy team, you will help conserve the unique character of the Estate, by advising on all stages of the application process. Changes to the external appearance of properties within the Estate require consent, acquired following a consultation process, and applications can range from minor alterations to windows and doors to extensions to new build development.
Key Responsibilities
- Review incoming applications, assess acceptability against design guidelines, and determine consultees and application fees
- Liaise with the SoM team in order to aid responses to queries raised by owners, applicants and consultees in person, on the telephone or via e-mail, in an efficient and courteous manner
- Liaise with applicants in order to explain and negotiate changes that may be necessary to the submitted design
- Attend site visits
- Produce reports with recommendations to the Managers
- Attendance at monthly committee meetings of the Managers. You will be required to present your report/recommendations and drawings to the Committee
- Assist with drafting, reviewing and updating policy guidelines
In order to avoid any conflict of interest the Architect will not be permitted to undertake work to property within the boundaries of the Dulwich Estate.
Person Specification: Qualifications, Skills and Experience
- ARB registered architect.
- Minimum of 5 years of post-part III qualification experience and 5 years working in UK base architectural practice
- RIBA Chartership and Conservation accreditation (AABC or RIBA) preferred, or willingness to apply for accreditation in the future
- Proven design and technical experience working on residential projects at small to medium scale, through all RIBA Work Stages
- Landscape design interest and knowledge
- Experience and passion for residential design, its history and future sustainability
- Experience of high quality design, technical detailing and the preparation of planning and listed building applications is desirable
- Proficiency in Office 365, PowerPoint and the ability to learn the Windows-based Document Management Systems are essential
- Surveying, sketch drawing, and CAD skills are required
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and presentation skills-confidence in meeting with residents and other professionals and presenting to the Board of Trustees.
- Excellent Team working skills-working collegially and inclusively, valuing the contribution of others and sharing knowledge and expertise
- Confidence in meeting with residents and other professionals and presenting to the Board of Trustees.
- Ability to prioritise workload to meet deadlines and timescales
- Strong organisational, administrative and management skills
- Full right to work in the UK (no sponsorship)
- A current driving licence and own transport for site visits essential
- Professional Indemnity Insurance of minimum £400k, with certificate to be provided.
