Reunite Sydenham Hill Wood and Dulwich Wood update

14 March 2025

The £1.5 million project to reconnect Sydenham Hill and Dulwich Woods will start soon.

The three-year programme to widen access and protect the ancient woodland won National Lottery Heritage funding last year. Led by London Wildlife Trust, in partnership with Southwark Council and The Dulwich Estate, the bulk of the project’s capital investment will be in Dulwich Wood, one of the Scheme of Management amenity areas in the Dulwich Estate.

The project includes:

  • restoration of the main footpaths in Dulwich Wood
  • conservation fencing to save remaining populations of wood anemone and English bluebells
  • new nature and heritage interpretation boards in Dulwich Wood
  • restoration of the folly by heritage conservation specialists
  • improving educational opportunities within the woods
  • expanding and diversifying volunteering opportunities.

Well done to The Dulwich Society which recently helped to raise £10,000 towards the project and agreed to provide £5,000 match-funding towards this target.
